Everything you need to configure the footer area on your store's password page.
When your Shopify store is password-protected — for example, while you're building or preparing for a launch — visitors see a password page instead of your live storefront. The Password Footer is a dedicated section that sits at the bottom of that page, providing essential links and branding elements for your visitors.
In the Boardwalk theme, the Password Footer section gives you a centered footer area with three key elements: a "Powered by Shopify" attribution badge, a quick link for store owners to access the Shopify admin, and a customizable Enter password button that opens a modal where visitors can type in the store password. You can show or hide each element independently and style the button to match your brand.
Follow these steps to configure the footer on your password page using the Boardwalk theme.
In your Shopify admin, go to
Online Store → Preferences. Scroll down
to the Restrict store access section and
check
Restrict access to visitors with the password. Enter a password and click Save. Your
store will now show the password page to visitors.
Note: The password page and its footer only appear when password protection is turned on. Once you remove the password, your live store theme is shown to all visitors instead.
Navigate to Online Store → Themes, find
Boardwalk, and click Customize. In the
page selector dropdown at the top center, choose
Others → Password to load the
password page template.
Click the Password Footer section in the sidebar. Choose your color scheme, decide whether to show the "Powered by Shopify" badge and the admin login link, and customize the appearance of the "Enter password" button.
The Password Footer supports theme blocks and app blocks. You can add any compatible theme blocks or third-party app blocks from the Add block menu in the Theme Editor to extend the footer's functionality.
Click Save in the Theme Editor. Preview your password page to verify the footer layout looks the way you want. You can visit your storefront URL in an incognito window to see the password page as your visitors would.
These settings apply to the entire Password Footer section and are accessible by clicking the section in the Theme Editor sidebar.
Select any defined color scheme to style the footer background and text colors.
Displays a small "Powered by Shopify" attribution line with the Shopify logo. Uncheck this to hide the branding badge entirely.
Shows a link to the Shopify admin login page
(/admin). This is a convenient shortcut for
store owners to access the backend directly from the
password page.
Controls the size of the "Enter password" button.
Options:
Small or Medium.
Sets the visual style of the button. Options:
Primary (solid filled button),
Secondary (outlined button),
Link (text-only link style), or
Link large (larger text-only link style).
Adds an arrow icon to the button for a more directional, call-to-action appearance.
When unchecked, the button inherits the section's color scheme. Uncheck this to reveal a separate color scheme picker for the button, allowing it to use different colors from the rest of the footer.
Choose a separate color scheme for the button. This setting only appears when Override section color is unchecked.
Add, remove, and reorder these blocks to customize the section layout.
You can add any compatible theme-level blocks provided by the Boardwalk theme. These are reusable components — such as text, images, or custom content blocks — that can be placed within the footer area to add extra information or branding to the password page.
Any Shopify app that supports theme app extensions can be embedded directly within the Password Footer. This lets you add functionality like email signup forms, social media feeds, countdown timers, or other third-party features to your password page.
Keep these Shopify admin details in mind when working with the Password Footer.
The password page and its footer only appear when password protection is turned on. Go to Online Store → Preferences and check Restrict access to visitors with the password. Without this, the password page will not be visible to anyone.
The entire Password Footer section is hidden if both Show "Powered by Shopify" and Show admin login are unchecked. At least one of these settings must be enabled for the section to appear on the page.
The separate Button color scheme picker only appears when Override section color is unchecked. When checked, the button automatically inherits the section's color scheme.
To see the password page as your visitors would, open your store URL in a private or incognito browser window. This way you won't be automatically authenticated by your Shopify admin session.
Once you remove the password in Online Store → Preferences, visitors will see your regular storefront. The password page and all its sections — including the Password Footer — will no longer be visible.
Online Store → Preferences, visitors
see your regular storefront and this footer is no longer
