Tropic Arts is committed to making our website and our Shopify themes accessible to the widest possible audience, including people with disabilities. We believe that great design is inclusive design, and that an accessible storefront is a better storefront for everyone.

Our Commitment

We strive to meet or exceed the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 at the AA level across both our website and the themes we build. WCAG 2.1 AA is the internationally recognized standard for web accessibility, and meeting it means our content should be perceivable, operable, understandable, and robust for all users.

Accessibility is not a one-time effort. It is an ongoing practice that we integrate into our design and development process at every stage — from initial concept through to testing, release, and updates.

Accessibility on Our Website

We work to ensure that the Tropic Arts website provides a positive experience for all visitors. Measures we have taken include using semantic HTML to provide meaningful document structure; ensuring sufficient color contrast between text and background elements; providing descriptive alt text for images; supporting keyboard navigation throughout the site; using ARIA attributes where appropriate to improve screen reader compatibility; and designing responsive layouts that adapt to different screen sizes and zoom levels.

Accessibility in Our Themes

Because our themes are used by merchants to serve their own customers, accessibility is a core part of how we build them. Accessibility features built into our themes include semantic HTML markup throughout all templates and sections; keyboard- accessible navigation menus, modals, drawers, and interactive elements; focus management and visible focus indicators for keyboard users; appropriate use of ARIA roles, labels, and live regions; skip-to-content links for efficient keyboard navigation; sufficient default color contrast ratios that meet WCAG 2.1 AA standards; and responsive design that works across devices, screen sizes, and input methods.

We also consider accessibility when designing the theme customizer experience, making it straightforward for merchants to configure their store in a way that maintains accessibility standards.

Shared Responsibility with Merchants

While we build our themes with accessibility in mind, the final accessibility of any Shopify store also depends on the content and configuration choices made by the merchant. To help maintain accessibility on your store, we recommend providing descriptive alt text for all product images and media; using heading levels in a logical, sequential order in your page content; maintaining sufficient color contrast when customizing theme colors; ensuring that any custom code additions or third-party apps you install also meet accessibility standards; and testing your store with a keyboard and with screen readers to verify the experience.

Our theme documentation includes guidance on these best practices where relevant.

How We Test

We test our themes and our website using a combination of automated tools and manual review. Our testing process includes automated accessibility audits using tools such as Axe, Lighthouse, and WAVE; manual keyboard navigation testing across all interactive elements; screen reader testing with VoiceOver (macOS/iOS) and NVDA (Windows); color contrast verification across all color schemes and customizer options; and testing at various zoom levels and viewport sizes to ensure content remains accessible.

Known Limitations

Despite our best efforts, there may be areas of our website or themes that are not yet fully accessible. Accessibility is an ongoing process, and we are continually working to identify and address any gaps. Some third-party content or embedded services may not be fully within our control, and their accessibility may vary.

If you encounter an accessibility barrier, we want to know about it so we can work to fix it.

Feedback and Contact

We welcome feedback on the accessibility of our website and themes. If you experience any difficulty accessing content, encounter a barrier, or have suggestions for how we can improve, please contact us. Your feedback helps us continue to improve.
